Christmas Markets of Montréal & Québec City: A Festive Small-Group Journey Through French Canada

There are few places in North America that capture the magic of Christmas quite like French Canada. Cobblestone streets glow with twinkling lights, historic squares transform into cozy holiday villages, and the scent of mulled cider and fresh pastries fills the winter air. Our Christmas Markets of Montréal & Québec City small-group tour blends Old World charm with modern comforts, creating a festive experience that feels straight out of a European storybook — without crossing the Atlantic.

Québec City: Where Christmas Feels Timeless

Our journey begins in Québec City, one of the most enchanting destinations in North America during the holiday season. We check into the legendary Fairmont Château Frontenac, perched high above the St. Lawrence River inside the continent’s largest walled city. After settling in, we gather to say bonjour and enjoy a behind-the-scenes guided tour of this iconic hotel, learning stories of its famous guests and rich history before sharing a relaxed welcome dinner with our fellow traveler.

The following day takes us beyond the city walls into the snow-dusted countryside. We visit Montmorency Falls, taller than Niagara Falls, followed by the beautifully decorated Sanctuary of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, a cherished pilgrimage site dressed in full Christmas splendor. A stop at a local cidery offers seasonal treats made from regional produce, and lunch on Île d’Orléans provides sweeping views back toward Québec City. We end the day browsing Le Grand Marché de Québec, where local foods, crafts, and holiday gifts abound.

Québec City’s Christmas Markets & Old-World Streets

Québec City truly shines during the holidays. With a professional guide leading us through winding streets and historic landmarks — including Place Royale, Notre-Dame-de-Québec Basilica, the Citadel, and Parliament Hill — we experience the city at its most magical. Five charming Christmas markets light up the Old Town, all within easy walking distance of our hotel and open into the evening, allowing you to explore at your own pace and soak in the festive atmosphere long after sunset.

Scenic Rail to Montréal: Travel in Comfort

After a leisurely breakfast, we board a high-speed luxury train for the scenic journey from Québec City to Montréal. Lunch is served onboard as snowy landscapes glide past our windows. Upon arrival at Montréal’s Gare Centrale, we step directly into the elegant Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, perfectly positioned for our next chapter. That evening, we visit Notre-Dame Basilica to experience Aura, a stunning multimedia Christmas presentation that blends light, music, and architecture into an unforgettable holiday experience.

Montréal: A Festive City of Neighborhoods

Montréal offers a vibrant contrast to Québec City’s medieval charm. With a private coach and expert guide, we explore highlights such as Mount Royal, Old Montréal, the Latin Quarter, Chinatown, and Saint Joseph’s Oratory. The afternoon and evening are yours to revisit the Christmas markets, shop, or simply enjoy a café au lait while watching the city sparkle with holiday energy
