The Viking Trail & L’Anse aux Meadows

Travel north along Newfoundland’s rugged Viking Trail to L’Anse aux Meadows, the only authenticated Norse settlement in North America. Explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site and discover the fascinating story of the Vikings who reached Newfoundland more than 1,000 years ago.

Icebergs, Whales & Puffins

Newfoundland is one of North America’s great destinations for wildlife and coastal scenery. Cruise Iceberg Alley at Twillingate in search of enormous icebergs and whales, and explore the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, home to one of the largest puffin colonies in North America.

Newfoundland’s Coastal Villages

Discover picturesque communities including Trinity, Bonavista and Brigus, where colorful homes, working harbors and dramatic Atlantic scenery offer a glimpse into Newfoundland’s distinctive coastal culture and history.

St. John’s, Signal Hill & Cape Spear

Finish the journey in colorful St. John’s, one of North America’s oldest cities. Explore its historic harbor, visit Signal Hill, and stand at Cape Spear, the easternmost point in North America.

What Makes This Newfoundland Tour Special?

See Newfoundland from West to East

Rather than visiting just one part of Newfoundland, this journey begins in Deer Lake and travels across the island to St. John’s. It is an unusually comprehensive way to experience Newfoundland’s landscapes, communities, history and culture in a single trip.

A Small Group Makes a Big Difference

With just 12–20 travelers, we can offer a more personal experience than a traditional large motorcoach tour. It is easier to get to know fellow travelers, interact with guides and enjoy the places we visit without feeling like part of a crowd.

Thoughtfully Paced for the Journey

Newfoundland is a large island, and seeing it well requires careful planning. Our itinerary balances touring days with comfortable hotels, included meals and carefully selected stops so that the journey itself becomes part of the experience rather than simply transportation between attractions.

More Than Sightseeing

Some of the most memorable parts of Newfoundland are its people and traditions. Local guides, storytelling, music, food and authentic Newfoundland experiences help you understand the destination rather than simply photograph it.

Travel with an Experienced Tour Leader

The tour is escorted throughout by an experienced Traveling Professor tour leader who handles the details, coordinates activities and helps manage the inevitable changes that can occur while traveling. You can concentrate on enjoying Newfoundland while we take care of the logistics.

Activity Level

This Newfoundland tour is best suited for active, mobile travelers who are comfortable walking and standing during sightseeing. This is not a hiking tour, but some attractions involve uneven ground, gravel paths, inclines, stairs and outdoor walking.

Travelers should be comfortable:

  • Walking for extended periods during guided sightseeing and visits to historic sites.
  • Navigating uneven or unpaved surfaces at locations such as Gros Morne National Park and L’Anse aux Meadows.
  • Boarding and exiting sightseeing boats for the Western Brook Pond, Twillingate and Witless Bay excursions.
  • Managing stairs and getting on and off the motorcoach independently.
  • Being outdoors in changing Newfoundland weather, which can include cool temperatures, wind and rain.

This tour is not appropriate for travelers who require a wheelchair or have severely limited mobility. Travelers should be able to keep pace with the group and participate independently in the scheduled activities.
