What to See and Do in Dingle Ireland

Professor Steve Solosky | 26 Sep, 2025 | Ireland, Wild Atlantic Way, Dingle | Ireland | View Counts (39) |Return|

On our Traveling Professor “Dublin and the Gems of Ireland” tour, we spend two unforgettable days in Dingle, staying at the comfortable and centrally located Dingle Benners Hotel. This charming fishing village on the Dingle Peninsula is a highlight of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.

Rich in history dating back nearly 6,000 years, Dingle has seen the influence of the Celts, Spanish traders, and more recently, Hollywood—most famously as the filming location for Skellig Michael, the remote island refuge of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker in Star Wars.

Here are our top recommendations for what to see and do in Dingle:

1. Slea Head Loop

Drive the Slea Head Peninsula and prepare to be awestruck. This scenic route offers one breathtaking view after another, from rugged cliffs to pristine beaches.

2. Gallarus Oratory

A 1,200-year-old dry-stone church shaped like a beehive, Gallarus Oratory is one of Ireland’s most unique ancient structures. Several can be found along the Slea Head Loop.

3. Dingle Crystal Workshop

Visit master craftsman Sean Daly’s workshop just outside town. After years at Waterford Crystal, he opened Dingle Crystal in 1998, creating exquisite hand-cut pieces.

4. Outdoor Adventures

  • Inch Beach: Perfect for walking, surfing, or just breathing in the fresh Atlantic air.

  • Mount Brandon: A rewarding climb with sweeping coastal views.

  • Golf: Book a tee time at one of Ireland’s most scenic courses.

5. The Dingle Way

This 110-mile walking route winds through stunning countryside. You don’t need to do it all—short sections offer the same breathtaking experience.

6. Blasket Islands

Take in panoramic views of the Dingle Peninsula from the Blaskets. Fun fact: In 1953, the last 200 residents relocated to Springfield, Massachusetts, where many descendants still receive The Kerryman newspaper.

7. Explore the Town of Dingle

Stroll the colorful streets and you’ll find artisan shops, friendly pubs, and unexpected delights around every corner.

8. Enjoy Dingle’s Fresh Seafood

As a historic fishing port, Dingle’s restaurants serve the freshest catch—salmon, bream, crab, scallops, mussels, lobster, and more.

9. Murphy’s Ice Cream

Located on Strand Street, Murphy’s offers flavors like Pink Champagne Sorbet and Chocolate Whiskey Ice Cream. Locals say it’s the best coffee in town too.

10. Pub Crawl – Dingle Style

With over 65 pubs in a small town, you’ll find music, conversation, and charm everywhere. Don’t miss:

  • Ashes Pub & Seafood (Main Street)

  • An Droichead Beag (Main Street – live music)

  • Foxy John’s (Pub, hardware store, and bike shop)

  • Adam’s (Music)

  • Dick Mack’s (Pub and leather workshop since 1899)

  • O’Flaherty’s (Traditional Irish music)

  • McCarthy’s Pub (Oldest pub in Dingle – est. 1867)

Why Dingle Should Be on Your Ireland Itinerary

Whether it’s dramatic ocean views, warm Irish hospitality, or rich cultural history, Dingle captures the heart of every traveler. On our Dublin and the Gems of Ireland tour, this stop is always a favorite—and for good reason.
