A Day Beyond Old Québec’s Historic Streets

While Old Québec City is a holiday wonderland in itself, our Traveling Professor Christmas Markets small group tours take you beyond its cobblestone streets for an unforgettable day in the surrounding countryside. This excursion blends spectacular scenery, cultural treasures, and festive seasonal experiences you’ll remember forever.

Montmorency Falls – Taller than Niagara

Just minutes from downtown Quebec City, Montmorency Falls is a jaw-dropping natural wonder—standing 272 feet tall, even higher than Niagara Falls. In winter, the frozen mist creates dazzling ice formations, making it one of the most photogenic spots in Québec.

The Sanctuary of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré – A Place of Pilgrimage

Next, we visit the Sanctuary of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, one of North America’s most significant pilgrimage sites. During the Christmas season, it’s adorned with lights, garlands, and nativity displays that create a truly spiritual and festive atmosphere. Pilgrims from around the globe come here year-round, but December offers something extraordinary.

Flavors of Île d'Orléans – Cidrerie Verger Bilodeau & Auberge La Goéliche

Crossing the bridge to Île d'Orléans, we first stop at Cidrerie Verger Bilodeau for artisanal ciders, holiday jams, and sweet treats made from local apples. It’s the perfect place to find unique Christmas gifts for food lovers.

Lunch awaits at Auberge La Goéliche, a charming inn and restaurant with panoramic views of the St. Lawrence River and the skyline of Quebec City. Fresh, local ingredients and warm hospitality make this a highlight of the day.

Le Grand Marché de Québec – Your Christmas Shopping Paradise

Our last stop is Le Grand Marché de Québec, a modern public market brimming with regional delicacies, artisan crafts, and holiday décor. You’ll find everything from maple products to handmade ornaments—ideal for Christmas market shopping in Quebec City.

Back to Old Québec – An Evening of Holiday Charm

We return to Old Québec in time for you to explore its twinkling lights, festive shop windows, and historic architecture. Our accommodations at the iconic Fairmont Le Château Frontenac make the perfect base for a winter getaway.  We always stay at this grand hotel on our tour of Quebec City.

The Christmas Markets of Montreal and Quebec City is the Professor's most popular tour.  Don't miss out on this winter adventure.   We also have a blog post on Where to Eat in Quebec City for your dining pleasure while visiting.
