Croatia’s stunning coastline and crystal-clear Adriatic waters make it a dream destination for travelers seeking history, culture, and natural beauty. Whether you’re island hopping or exploring coastal cities, each port of call offers its own unique charm. Here are some of our favorite stops along Croatia’s spectacular shores.
Here are the ports of call we typically visit on our small ship cruise to Croatia.
Split
Split is a vibrant city where ancient history meets modern life. The highlight is the UNESCO World Heritage site, Diocletian’s Palace, a sprawling Roman ruin that forms the heart of the old town. Wander through narrow cobblestone streets filled with cafes, shops, and buzzing markets. Split also offers a lively nightlife scene and beautiful waterfront promenades perfect for sunset strolls.
Stari Grad
One of the oldest towns in Europe, Stari Grad on the island of Hvar is rich in history and culture. The peaceful harbor and charming stone houses give this town an authentic Mediterranean feel. It’s ideal for those wanting a quieter, more traditional Croatian experience while still being close to the island’s famous vineyards and lavender fields.
Kuna
Located on the Pelješac Peninsula, Kuna is a small, picturesque fishing village known for its fresh seafood and tranquil atmosphere. It’s a great spot to slow down, enjoy local delicacies, and soak up authentic Dalmatian hospitality away from the crowds.
Trstenik
Another gem on Pelješac, Trstenik is famous for its delicious oysters and beautiful beaches. Visitors can enjoy fresh seafood in cozy taverns or take boat rides to nearby hidden coves. The peaceful vibe and natural surroundings make it a perfect escape for relaxation.
Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik, often called the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” is a must-visit Croatian city. Its medieval walls encircle a stunning old town filled with baroque buildings, ancient churches, and lively squares. Walk the city walls for breathtaking views of the sea and red rooftops or explore historic forts and museums. Dubrovnik is also a great base for exploring nearby islands. This is always a stop on our small ship cruise.
Korčula
Korčula Island offers a blend of history, natural beauty, and wine culture. The old town, often referred to as “Little Dubrovnik,” is full of narrow lanes and impressive architecture. Don’t miss tasting the local white wine and olive oils, and be sure to check out the stunning beaches and pine forests around the island.
Hvar
Known for its vibrant nightlife and glamorous marina, Hvar is one of Croatia’s most popular islands. Beyond the party scene, it offers beautiful lavender fields, historic sites, and crystal-clear waters ideal for swimming and boating. The main town has charming squares, ancient fortresses, and some of the best restaurants in the region.
Pučišća
On the island of Brač, Pučišća is famous for its white limestone quarries, which provided stone for famous landmarks like the White House in Washington D.C. This quaint town offers a peaceful retreat with lovely beaches, art galleries, and delicious local cuisine. The architecture and craftsmanship here give Pučišća a unique character.
Bol
Also on Brač, Bol is known for the stunning Zlatni Rat beach — a shifting golden pebble spit that stretches into the sea. It’s a hotspot for windsurfing, sunbathing, and water sports. Bol combines natural beauty with a welcoming town center full of restaurants, cafes, and cultural events.
Each of these ports of call offers something special — from historic sites and culinary delights to breathtaking landscapes and lively entertainment. Whether you’re a history buff, a foodie, or simply looking to relax by the sea, Croatia’s coastline has a perfect destination waiting for you.
